Digital HF for Early Warning and Disaster Communications Systems

The Early Warning Disaster Communication Solution (EWDCS) is built on a premise of resilience and simplicity. It provides communications before, during and after disasters, with the ability to trigger warning sirens remotely and disseminate information across a large geographic area by voice, text, phone and email.

HF radio is the backbone because it does not rely on the 3G/4G and satellite infrastructure that tends to fail in a disaster. A hierarchical network runs from a National Disaster Authority headquarters down through regional emergency operations centres and local out-stations, using Codan’s Automatic Link Establishment voting capability to optimise signal quality and multi-level addressing to target alerts nationally or regionally.

The system is simple to train and operate, has very low running costs, and scales without total reconfiguration, giving authorities a dependable emergency backbone when conventional systems are down.
