In 2014 Codan released its 2nd Generation Digital Voice solution, offering affordable, optionally encrypted, better-than-analogue performance on the Envoy series of Software Defined Radios, and HF Assure was born. Since then, organisations have upgraded entire analogue HF fleets to it.

UN missions in Mali had suffered unreliable HF communications while operating within the HF skip zone. Codan engineers proposed incorporating HF Assure into the existing network: additional base stations were deployed across Mali with remote control points in UN operations rooms connected over IP, and mobile radios were upgraded to 2nd Generation ALE to benefit from Best in Group Calls.

HF Assure is a voting-style system that automatically selects the best signal path, with a simple multilingual interface, encryption, smartphone control and IP connectivity. With it deployed, UN teams can communicate reliably from anywhere in Mali and focus on the mission rather than the network.
