Sentry Mesh 6161

PERSONAL RADIO / SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIO

A 410g handheld MANET radio that hosts DTC’s MeshUltra waveforms across a 144-node self-healing network, built for dismounted operations where connectivity is not optional.

Every gram carried is a decision made. At just under 410 grams, the Sentry Mesh 6161 is a soldier mesh radio engineered to cut equipment burden without cutting communications reach. A software-defined architecture sits behind that figure: new waveforms can be hosted on the same hardened platform without a depot return, so capability tracks the mission rather than the procurement cycle. The modular, standards-based design integrates with off-the-shelf audio, power, data hub, antenna, and camera systems, removing bespoke engineering overhead. With the Battery Adaptor, it runs from a directly connected MBITR battery for a compact handheld configuration, or from distributed power across the harness. Dual PTT and user-programmable F1/F2 function keys keep operators on the mission, not the hardware.

MeshUltra runs as a self-forming, self-healing MANET waveform built on token-passing channel access. Collisions are eliminated. Packet latency stays bound and predictable. As a handheld MANET radio, the Sentry Mesh 6161 sustains up to 144 nodes per network and up to 32 simultaneous talkgroups per channel, with data throughput up to 87 Mbps. Voice, live video, sensor feeds, and command traffic run concurrently over a single body-worn unit. In dense urban terrain, where buildings create multi-path reflection and cancellation, MIMO holds the link where single-channel systems drop it. The optional Interference Avoidance System (IAS) extends that resilience into electronically contested environments. Native ATAK and WinTAK support shares position across every node in real time, and the waveforms interoperate with DTC Mesh unmanned products to extend the operational picture from the dismounted team to airborne and ground platforms.

Certified to IP68 at two metres for one hour and qualified across the full MIL-STD-810H environmental matrix, the Sentry Mesh 6161 operates from -45 to +55 °C through thermal shock, altitude, vibration, mechanical shock, dust, humidity, salt fog, fungus, fluid contamination, rain, and immersion. MIL-STD-461G governs electromagnetic compatibility. Voice and data traffic run on FIPS 140-3 Level 2 certified AES-256 encryption, with DES-56 available as an option; key fill is periodic and stays transparent to the operator. Field-proven across public safety, unmanned systems, and covert operations, the platform holds communications integrity regardless of network conditions or operating environment.

Designed and manufactured through Codan sovereign engineering facilities, the Sentry Mesh 6161 gives armed forces and agencies verifiable control over components, firmware, and production provenance. That control matters at procurement. It matters more at sustainment. Software Defined architecture supports approved third-party and in-house waveform hosting on one hardened platform, reducing vendor lock-in and enabling rapid fielding of mission-specific capability across coalition and joint operations. Behind every unit sits more than 65 years of deployment heritage. DTC operates a global support network spanning 165+ countries, with direct engineering access and regional teams across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. The same engineers who designed the Sentry Mesh 6161 sustain it in the field, from first integration through active deployment.

MISSION OUTCOME

The Sentry Mesh 6161 delivers sovereign, field-proven mesh communications in a sub-410-gram unit built for the dismounted operator. For military and law enforcement programmes that need a soldier mesh radio with FIPS 140-3 Level 2 certified encryption, native ATAK and WinTAK integration, and 144-node network resilience, the Sentry Mesh 6161 holds the link when other systems cannot.
